Getting married in church is meaningful, spiritual, personal, beautiful - just as you would want it to be
What to do once we've decided on St Mary's as the church we would like?
Make contact with Rev Phil to share the good news either at a church service or ring the Rectory on 2799144. Do it as soon as you can, so Phil has time to advise you about the legal requirements for marrying at the church, and because there may be competition for dates.
He will arrange a time to meet to talk about your plans and to fill in all the relevant forms. You will also need to pay a £50 deposit to secure the date and would need to show some proof of identity and address.
How much will it cost?
The minimum fee for a wedding in 2019 is £489. In addition it is expected that you would contribute up to £34 for heating in colder months, £34 for a verger and if the service is being videoed another £23 toward the Copyright licence. If you wanted an organist that would be a further £75. Sometimes people prefer to use music from CD’s for which there is no additional charge.
What if we have been divorced?
We are happy to meet people who have been married before because we believe that no one is perfect, we all make mistakes and our God is a God of love and forgiveness. Talk to Rev Phil about this when you see him, but please don't worry about it.
Do I have to come to church?
No, you don’t have to but it would be lovely to see you at our services. Many couples like to come when we read their banns. This means we announce in the service that you are due to marry for the first 3 weeks, the month before the wedding date. We always pray for the couples once we have read them.
