St Mary's Church Moston

What We Believe

We Believe

We believe that God loves all people equally, no matter who they are, what they’ve done or what they believe. God’s love for us never depends on who we are, but on who God is and God sees us all as God’s precious children.

We believe that God’s true nature was uniquely revealed in the person of Jesus. Jesus came to show us what God was really like, that God would go to any lengths to reach us and that God is with us and will never leave us.

We believe that we were all created to know, love and serve God. It is by being in a relationship with God we experience God’s love, discover the life God has planned for us and grow into the people God created us to be. It is God’s desire that we put God first and live our lives for the benefit of other people and, it is by doing that, we discover the real meaning and purpose of life.

We believe that we all need God’s help if we are to live the life God wants for us. We are all flawed; we all make mistakes and do things that hurt other people and ourselves, (in the Christian faith we call this sin). God wants us to discover God’s healing and forgiveness, so we can grow even closer to God, be more whole as people and be even better at showing and sharing God’s love with other people.

We believe God sends the Holy Spirit into each person’s life, to work with us, and in us and through us as we love and serve God in the world.

We believe that we also need each other if we are to grow in our faith and be effective in following God. We meet as a church family to learn, share, support and encourage each other. We aim to be a loving, welcoming community, where everyone can feel at home and accepted, whoever they are.

Our Priorities as a Church

Growing in numbers

We believe passionately in an amazing God, who loves each one of us and welcomes us with open arms and we want more people to discover this truth for themselves. We will be continuing to put on special events and services, such as our outdoor Pentecost service, over 50s night, Good Party etc, and we hope people will invite their friends along to these events where we tell people about God’s love and acceptance. We also want to develop and expand our Kids Church to see more children coming along and learning about God.

Growing in faith

We don’t want more people to come to church just so our numbers can go up. Church is one of the best places to draw close to God in worship, learn more about our faith through the sermons and get to know each other better. We want to see new people come to know God and every church member to know God better and go deeper with their faith. We hope to see more people joining house-groups and becoming involved in other areas of church life that they feel passionately about.

Growing in community

In terms of our church community, we are working hard to bring more unity between the two congregations and provide more occasions where people from both services can get to know each other better. In terms of the community of Moston, we would like to work more closely with the school and community groups, as well as developing our work with ChangeMakers.
