Baptisms and Weddings |
BaptismsWho can be christened at St Mary’s church? You can have your child baptised here if you live in our parish or you have a link with the church (e.g. your parents were married here, a relative comes on Sunday). Please ask Matt, Jo or Jane (the vicars) if you’re not sure if you live in the parish. When do the baptisms happen? They are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 1pm. After the baptism, each family is invited to the next Family service, which is on the 1st Sunday of each month at 11am, where the children who have been baptised are welcomed to the church and given their baptisms certificates. How do I book a christening? You can see one of the church leaders (Matt, Jo or Jane) at the end of the service or ring on a number given HERE What happens next? A week before the baptism the vicar doing the service will come and see you at home to talk you through the service and answer any questions you might have. How much does it cost? The service is completely free, but there are collection plates at the service if people would like to make a donation. Do I have to come to church? No, but baptism is about following the Christian faith and becoming a member of the church so it would be lovely to see you at St Mary’s at any time, especially at the Family Service and you would always be welcome here. |
WeddingsWho can get married at St Mary’s? You can marry here if you are over 18 and live in the parish or if you have a link with the church (e.g. your parents were married or baptised here, you used to come when you were younger). How do we book a date? Either see Matt, Jo or Jane (the vicars) after the service or ring the Rectory on 681 1201. They will arrange a time for you to come round, or they can come to you, to talk about your plans and to fill in all the forms. You will also need to pay a £50 deposit to secure the date. How much will it cost? In 2011 it will be £430. That figure includes 2 optional fees; £50 for the organist and £20 for permission to video the service. What if we have been divorced? We are happy to meet people who have been married before because we believe that no one is perfect, we all make mistakes and our God is a God of love and forgiveness. Talk to the vicar about this when you see them but please don't worry about it. Do I have to come to church? No, you don’t have to but it would be lovely to see you at our services. Many couples like to come when we read their banns. This means we announce in the service that you are due to marry for the first 3 weeks, the month before the wedding date. We always pray for the couples once we have read them. |
